                                                   A BILL ENTITLED
                          AN ORDINANCE TO PROVIDE FOR THE LEVYING
                             OF A POLL TAX ON AFRICANS RESIDENT IN
                                       ANY URBAN AREA
                              ENACTED by the Governor of ‘he Colony of Kenya,
                          with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof,
                          as follows —
                                 1    This Ordinance may be cited as the African Poll Tax Short title and
                                                                                             cement
                          (Urban Areas) Ordmance, 1950, and shall come into operation “O™men
                          on the Ist day of January, 1951

                                 2.   In this Ordmance, unless the context otherwise !lerpretation
                        5 requires-—
                                 “African District Council’ mears an African District
                          Counceestablished or deemed to have been established unde                            No 12 of 1950
                          the Atrican District Councils Ordinance, 1950,
                               “Member” means the Member of the Executive Council
                       10 of the Colony for the time being responsible for Finance,
                               ‘urban area” means a municipality established under the
                          Mumeipalities Ordinance and such townships established ©4P 1%¢
                           under the Townships Ordinance to which the Member may, Cap 133
                           by notice in the Gazette, extend the provisions of this
                          Ordinance
