                                           DECREE 1966

       THE FEDERAL MILITARY GOVERNMEN
                                      T hereby decrees as
  follows. :

       1. Section 269 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1962 (which
  inquiries :into shipping casualties) is hereby amended-—     provides for             Powerto
                                                                                        investigate
       (2) in subsection (1) by the deletion in paragraphs (a), (0),                    shipping
                                                                     (c), (e), and      casualties
    ({) of the word Commonwealth” ; and                                                 not
       (4) in subsection (2) by the deletion,—-                                          otherwise
                                                                                       : reported.
          (7) in paragraphs (a), (c), (@) and (f) of the word “Commonwea                 1962 No. 30.
                                                                         lth,”
       and,                                                    ;
         (77) in paragraphs(a) and (d) of the word “such” ; and
       (c) in subsection (3) by the deletion of the words “any
                                                               part of the
    Commonwealth,” and the substitution therefor of the words
                                                               ‘‘Nigeria or
    elsewhere,’’. -

     2. This Decree may be cited as the Merchant Shipping
                                                                (Casualties)           Citation, etc. ’
 Decree 1966 and shall be read as one with the Merchant Shippi
                                                               ng Act 1962.

                              EXPLANATORY NotE
     (This Noteis not part of the Decree but is-intended to explainits
                                                                       effect)
     Section 269 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1962 authorises
                                                                    investigations
and inquiries into casualties affecting Commonwealth shipping
                                                              only, and
this amendment will permit investigation and inquiry into any
                                                               shipping
casualty.        :
